ANIMALS AND ARTISTS

I have just finished two portraits of Golden Retrievers….Duncan and Sammy. Thought I would share them with you. Doing dog portraits is more than just painting….it is revealing the soul of the animal. Duncan and Sammy are brothers with two distinct personalities. Duncan, top, is a very noble dog, blessed with the eagerness to please. Sammy, bottom, is introspective. His serious look hides the fact that he has many important things to do so don’t get in his way. He also loves loving. Both dogs are intelligent and fabulous.
Artists are like this. Each with a different personality, with different visions, yet we tend to compare ourselves to other artists. When we do this we are usually left with the feeling of not being “as good”. This year let’s try an experiment with ourselves. Let’s look to other artists for inspiration but remember to honor our individual vision.
“You have to believe in yourself, that’s the secret. Even when I was in the orphanage, when I was roaming the street trying to find enough to eat, even then I thought of myself as the greatest actor in the world.” Charlie Chaplin

these are gorgeous Gwen, really fab. I have a new dog, he is a standard poodle named Thiebaud. Best dog I have ever owned, and hard to photograph since he is so black.
